According to a recent TV broadcast about Radio 1 (on Sky One, I think) one of the reasons for the BBC having a "clean out" of the old guard DJs was due to Paul Whitehouse & Harry Enfield's p**s take of two ageing DJs: Smashey & Nicey. Whitehouse, interviewed in the show, said they hadn't realised what an impact they would have.
I spent many happy hours not properly doing my prep in 6th form listening to Peter Powell, followed by David (having lost the "kid" tag by then) Jensen, Annie Nightingale and John Peel. Even now, I can recall various celebs who had been interviewed on Annie's show doing the telephone number "it's Oh-one -- if you're outside London -- five-eight-oh, double-four, double one". Am I a sad git, or what?

What always amazes me about Fluff is that he is equally at ease (and knowledgeable) presenting his Classical show and the Heavy Metal show (which he used to do on BFBS). Sensational....

And listening to him present a documentary on the drifters on saturday 2000-10-21 on R2.
When he used to do Pick Of the Pops on R2 he was imaculate as back when he did the saturday rock show on R1.
I remember listening to the R1 tribute show to John Peel this lat year or so and fluff freeman came on saying that it was JP who introduced him to rock and roll way back when - amazing stuff to listen to.
