A Conversation for Secrets of Longevity

Low Cal Diet

Post 1

Call Me Mertens

A recently discovered method of extending life is a low calorie diet. It consists of eating a diet of about 1500 - 1700 calories as opposed to the 2000 norm, while still consuming all of the needed nutrients. In several rodents it extended life-spans by almost 1/3, as well as increasing energy and coordination. In humans it is still being tsted, but the test subjects (namely the scientist whose idea it was and his family) claim that they definitely feel more energetic, albeit more hungry than usual. As with all diets, it requires steadfast self-control, and should not be initiated without consulting a physician. (Though whether they'll say anything helpful is another story!)
