A Conversation for Why the British Drive on the Left
A Reason for Right

One reason Ive heard for Americans driving on the right:
in the American West "old west" riders would often carry rifles with them, and used their right handed index finger as their "trigger finger". thus, to be able to cover anyone they met with their rifle, but still look relaxed, the traveller would sort of drape the rifle in his arms, with his right hand near the trigger and the rest of the gun poking off to the left at an angle. this necessitated that he keep to the right of anyone he met so he could still have his gun handy.
dont ask me if this is true.
