I have been forwarded the email exchange between yourself and Ian Palmer as I am responsible within the Department for City Technology College (CTC) liaison.
As you are aware Emmanuel College is an independent school funded through a Funding Agreement with the Secretary of State.
I should first assure you that the promotion of creationism at Emmanuel College has been investigated. Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools sought assurances from the College’s Governing Body that the College is fulfilling its responsibilities in relation to the teaching of National Curriculum science. He was satisfied that the College is meeting the requirements of the curriculum as they apply to CTCs. The College is also fulfilling its Funding Agreement requirements of providing a broad and balanced curriculum.
As an independent school recruitment and retention of teachers is a matter for the Governors and Principal of Emmanuel College. I have passed your comments concerning Mr Layfield to the Principal of Emmanuel College for his attention.
