So the Flamming Pie was just a story, but did it play any part in the Kids in the Hall's Happiness Pie for Brain Candy? They seem a bit similar

That was the Legend-- The man on the Flaming Pie.
Lennon was invited to explain their name to Mersey Beat, a publication that specialized in the local music scene. He went silly, and made up the story. It was a big joke, admittedly forgotten by the BEATLES, until the remaining Fab Four were approached to collaborate on The Anthology.
In all truth, it was more between Stu Sutcliff(original bassist) and Lennon... they experimented with various titles. I know I read about this on h2g2, at the BEATLES Guide Entry, I believe-- http://www.h2g2.com/A193646... I could be wrong.
The BEATLES in name are a tribute to Buddy Holly and the Crickets-- the boys liked that "Buggy" sound... Guess I like that "Buggy" sound, too...
They changed Beetles to BEATLES, giving it that AWESOME, musical distinction!!!
