Guatemala: Tikal

1 Conversation

Going there is rather easy. Take a plane to the town of Flores in Guatemala. With a little luck you'll survive this part of trip. The airport is a universe of itself. Plan at least one hour for studying this building in the people in it. It will be helpful to know some Spanish.><>

In the airport buildíng hundreds of guys offer themselves as drivers or guides. As a guide choose a scientist if you can find one. To be more specific, not every scientist will be a good deal for you. Forget about theologists or genetic engineers, avoid MBAs or even lawyers. Prefer biologists or archeologists.
Picking a good transfer is even more fun. If you have time, pick one of the old buslike Volkswagen. With one of those the trip to Tikal will take almost 2 hours (for about 60).

Tikal itself is an old Maya city, left by its inhabitants some hundred years ago for unknown reasons. Reaching it you have to walk through the djungle (amazing) for about one hour. You will see monkeys and lots of other wild animals. The city itself is huge,
so take your time. You can climb on pyramids about 100 m high wich will give you a perfect view over the top of the trees. A guy named George Lucas used this location for his movie "Star Wars".
Take care to drink enough water, use repellent and good shoes. It is a must-place to see.8-)
