Minimum fare has since been upped to $1.10. Other interesting destinations are Rosslyn for its very long escalator (I have actually seen tourists get out and take pictures). Either BCC or Silver Spring, I forgot, somewhere on the red line, is supposed to have the longest escalator in the world. Also stop at Dupont Circle... just because it's Dupont Circle.

Wheaton is now the station with the longest escalator. Dupont Circle is a handy station in an area where there are numerous restaurants featuring various ethnic cuisines.
And I'm afraid there are also colour coded signs corresponding to the subsequent arriving train at Rosslyn and L'Enfant Plaza, as well as at Pentagon. They have also added signs with LED displays to inform customers of the next approaching train with approximate times at every station in the system.
Currently in the planning station is a possible "Purple Line" which would connect the two termini of the Red Line to the Orange line running outside the Beltway Interstate.
