One of the good things about Sapphire and Steel is the lack of explanations. Most things were very cryptic and you have to really accept the show on it's own logic.
If they were to make a new version I have a strange feeling that Tamsin Outhwaite would make a good Sapphire or Kate Beckinsale. As for Steel maybe Christian Bale

Why on earth would we need new actors? (especially Outhwaite???) The plotline at the end made it very clear that both sapphire and steel were trapped in time in the station possibly for centuries.....McCallum has expressed an interest in the past in reprising his role so if Lumley could be coax into it along with good enough scripts then there's no reason they couldn't play their own parts again with the aging perfectly explained away by time spent trapped.
