Dublin Restaurants: Brasserie na Mara

0 Conversations

In response to criticism that all I write about in Dublin is the drink, I thought I'd do a quick restaurant review whilst the place itself is still fresh in my memory.

Location

On the harbour, Dun Loaghaire. The restaurant itself is in the former station house itself, which dates back about 100 years.

In Brief

A high class, medium cost brasserie. It specialises in seafood but also does a range of haute cuisine1 and has a decent wine list. The maitre d' effects a fairly convincing French, and may in all probability be a genuine Frenchman. The decor is fairly spartan with huge high ceilings and strangely positioned mirrors as is the fashion these days.

Cost and Fare

A meal for 2 set me back IRĀ£75 ish, including a bottle of wine and Irish coffees to finish. I had wild mushroom confit and an absolutely amazing salmon and fennel concoction for the main meal. By nature I don't do desserts but they had a variety of chocolate based things if I were to change the habit of a lifetime.

Summary

Would I take a large group of friends there? Probably not.

Will I take my girlfriend there (again)? Definitely - when the wallet recovers.

Info

The restaurant opens for lunch Monday to Friday and evening meals Monday to Saturday.
