Mount Washington, NH, USA
"Home of the world's worst weather"
Located at 044-16-14.9 N 071-18-12.5 W 1916.5 M, Mount Washington is the highest peak in the White Mountains, and in the northeastern US.
While those who have wintered in Antarctica might argue about the relative quality of the weather, it is true that the weather on Mount Washington is bad enough to have claimed the lives of over one hundred people who failed to treat it with the proper respect. The natives, of course, traditionally steered clear of the place. They were apparently not interested in the magnificent view, which can be seen on the average of roughly one day out of three.
Mount Washington is home to the Mount Washington Observatory, one of the very few manned mountaintop weather stations in the world.
An account of an all too typical hike on the "rockpile" may be found here. If that didn't dissuade you from trying it yourself, then head on over to the Appalachian Mountain Club for more information.
