I can't say I hate

the "Star Wars" franchise. I kinda liked the toy weapons. I've even had a couple of the noise-making Han Solo pistols. Of course, I liked the Mauser C96 "Broomhandle" pistol long before.
I guess, to be truthful, I disliked the hoopla and the pretentious horse pucky that went along with the original release of the movie that has grown into a cultural pimple.
I didn't even see the first episode until a rerelease in 1981 or so. I wasn't impressed. I think it was about the time that "Heavy Metal" came out, which I enjoyed immensely.
I guess I can thank "Star Wars" for Lucas having the money and the time to make the first and the third "Indiana Jones" movies.
Once upon a time I read a book about or by George Lucas that detailed the trials, tribulations, and coffee breaks that lead to the final cut of "Star Wars". It reminded me a lot about the one I almost finished that detailed the trials, tribulations and battery-operated fun of making Shpielberg's "Jaws". I had been a Trekkie before the word was invented. I had read every book written about it or near the original series. I watched a few of the Paramount four-reelers but was never impressed. Some ideas are made for the small screen and some are made for the big screen. Can you imagine "Barney Miller" as a movie?
