The Goals of the UnderGuide

The UnderGuide was formed in 2003 to accomplish three purposes. To encourage people on h2g2 to write creative pieces, to promote great creative pieces and to provide reading material to the community.

Encourage People to Write Creative Pieces...

Inevitably, when people are provided a place for something to go, some will make such things to go there, especially when that place is desirable¹. The UnderGuide attempts to create such a place so that people may be encouraged to either bring pieces onto h2g2 or write them.

In fact, we have evidence that this can be accomplished, and in fact, has been. The following are the number of entries in the Alternative Writing Workshop (AWW) as of January 17, 2004 as gathered by Ben. As you can see, they show that more entries are submitted into the AWW from February - March 2003 and July - August 2003. These are the times when the UnderGuide volunteers were most active in the Alternative Writing Workshop, so the presence of the UnderGuide’s volunteers encouraged people to write creative pieces.
