I can understand that cycle related injuries have increased but I would like these sorts of questions answered.
Do they include injuries caused by the increase in extreme cycling type activities? (Average cyclist injuries reduce or stay the same - mad cyclists injure themselves more.
Has the number of bikes dramatically increased? i.e. out of proportion to the number of accidents (thus giving a lower proportion of cyclists injured)

Safety Hint. I agree with the concept of taking on a larger than life persona. A friend of mine used to ride up and down the A2 just south of Canterbury (when it was basically a motorway without a hard shoulder). He bought a gas operated (aerosol) foghorn from a ships' chandler and put it in the drinks bottle holder of his bike. Every so often he would sound it. The motorist would "hear" the horn of a fast approaching juggernaught and take evasive action.
