I find it extremely annoying that they put all this money into the Millenium Dome (which was a complete flop) and now spending large amounts of money on the "New" stadium to host the Olympics and we still have the Great British people living on the poverty linea screwed up Health Service and the Global detremental effects of human beings to the planet.
Look at the ridiculously disgusting amounts (Billions of Pounds) wasted on construction (I understand they give people jobs) but it's like the Great has gone out of Great Britain.
What about pumping some of those millions into the Health Service, into Poverty, the poor, stop immigrants coming into our country until we can look after our own first.
Immigrants love Britain as we will accept anyone - giving jobs to foreigners when there are so many British people out of work. Australia and New Zealand don't you have to have certain qualifications and means tested.
Okay so the lottery fund is a good idea but shouldn't they really prioritize the money spent better ie
Fighting Poverty for the British People
Health Service
Global Warming and everything that goes with it.
Then consider building fantastic architecture using the British people as it's workers - give back something to Britain so it can be Great again.

Hi Chewy, and welcome to h2g2!
Yes, I wrote this as I thought there was a story to tell when you consider all the Millennium constructions in the cold light of day. We can dismiss this wasted money as Millennium high-spirits, but the point is it's still happening. This week I read that the Olympics cost is going to be nearer to £9billion (maybe the article needs an update already). Will we ever learn?
I'm not too bothered how they choose to allocate lottery funds - in the end it's just another tax, but one which we can choose to opt out of

,i didn't see this!!I have just posted similarly on my journal, after hearing on the news about the 9.3 billion our wonderful government is ploughing in to the olympics stadium!!!
We can't afford to give people a new drug that so improves the lives of alzheimers sufferers...it costs £2.50 a day......and we can't afford the drug that three ladies suffering cancer want to help them in their battle.....lets just build a big stadium instead!!!
Of course everyone that wants to take up sport seriously will then trail to london to use the facilities there....because they don't have anything locally...they were costing too much to run,so the powers that be closed them down!!!!

I think to be fair, the £9.35billion is largely to regenerate that area of Hackney, but they've been very cagey about exactly what they want to do, how much it will cost, and who's paying.
Maybe it's a lesson we have to learn - I'd have been happy with an Olympics anywhere in a similar same time zone, to be honest.

Hi, Smurfles, I followed you over here, and boy am I depressed
Thank goodness for the successful list at the end or I would have despaired.
Perhaps someone should do a similar entry on all the prestigious computer projects that this Govt. has set up, all failing miserably to achieve what was intended and in many cases making things worse at enormous cost.
Of course someone may have already done it, but I can't face looking!!
Going away for a and a

I'd agree, except that I've made plenty of money out of it myself
I've actually seen it from both sides - in the early days it was definitely the fault of the contractors (Wessex Regional Health, etc) These days it's generally the Government's fault because they don't invest in good project and change management.
Key: Complain about this post
