If you take the number with which Bach's 48 Preludes and Fugues exceed 42, viz. 6, and multiply that with 42, you get 252. The sum of these three digits (2+5+2) is 9, which is symbolic of the Holy Trinity to the power 3. Surely this is yet another instance of Bach's cleverly encoding all manner of numerical and alphabetic symbolism into his compositions.
