A Conversation for Trousers versus Pants

Pants

As I am currently residing in North America I find it very amusing that 'they' call trousers pants...but similarly 'they' find it funnny that I call their pants trousers, seeing as this word means nothing to them. (Well, the uneducated who do not know that their (possible) distant ancestors in England call these items of clothing by a different name.)
Another thing that I have realised whilst living here is that when I say "pudding", the word can connote any desert, as well as more specifically meaning a warm cake-like desert. Or sweet.
Aren't words wondrous things - even if they do control and limit us in many ways.
