audience participation ideas
for The Blair Witch Project

Though I don't think Blair Witch can go exactly the way Rocky Horror Picture Show went, I am still trying to think how
audience participation can work for the show. Once it goes to video, I think a drinking game would be fun. Get a bunch
of friends together and every time someone says the F word, everyone takes a drink.

It's a bit difficult to do something for it live, because it has to be an idea that takes into consideration many factors. This
is a film that can be approached many ways.

Harry Knowles sees it as a novel opportunity to psyche out your friends.
Bring someone who's never seen the film and tell them just enough to make them believe it's real. Then watch their
reactions.

You can approach it as a serious film, like the first time you saw it. You can approach it humorously because when you
detach yourself from the ominous ending and realize that it's 'just a movie' you can have fun with just how poorly it's
filmed. I mean it's like home movies you may have made yourself.

Unfortunately people laughing at the screen in an auditorium where there are people taking it seriously, well let's just
say it's a few weeks too early to have fun with it in that manner.

Predominantly I think there'd need to be a number of creative people who went together a few times and started
experimenting. Maybe everyone could start dressing up to go to the movie in 'camping outfits' like wearing fatigues
and camoflage or a coat and knitted hat and even bring camping packs. See how far you could get with the costume
before the owners of the theater refused admittance to you.

Arrive a half hour before the show starts and get complete strangers to tell each other ghost stories. Pass out paper and
crayons and ask people to draw what they think the Blair Witch looks like.

Now if you did do audience participation, where people actually talk back to the screen, there's a couple directions you
can go. Whenever they get to the creek, people can start shouting out at the screen, "follow the creek! Don't CROSS
the creek! Follow the waterway!" Near the beginning of the movie, when Heather is showing the books she takes with
her, she gets to a book that talks about how to survive in the woods. You can yell back, "that she never cracks open to
save her life!"

They're at the car and they're getting ready to leave it, and you can yell out, "and then the man with the hook for a
hand comes out of the woods and KILLS THEM! Oh wait that's another movie.."

This is just my brainstorming. I'm trying to come up with better stuff but I'm hoping to get other people in on it and
accumulatively, the more brains interested in the idea the better.

If anyone asks you if it's real, say you knew a friend who once dated Heather Donahue and he said she never came
back. =)

Please share your ideas about this in the forum below. If you loved the movie as much as I did, you want it to be
successful and fun. Go see the movie more than once, if you want to see more movies made like this in the future.
