The coleopterous with its horny elytra takes its name from the Old English word bitula (to bite). In the meadow today I saw a slim black beetle with rapid tiny yellow legs go up and down a blade of grass; it appeared that he (or was it she?) was possibly trying to evade two black beetles from a species with red heads. A curious bee hovered nearby.
Isn't nature wonderful?
