A Conversation for Black Holes

I could be wrong but I believe the Stephen Hawkings has predicted that only from the point of view of an observer outside the event horizon does an object passing into a black hole appear to be torn apart. He believes that from the point of view of someone who has crossed over the event horizon, they in fact do not appear to be torn apart. And on that note I shall attempt to dig out the article I read that in.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
