History
The idea of central park came from elite rich New Yorkers in 'high society' to improve their image. The park was constructed to convince Europeans that America was not a greedy, materialistic country. This would serve as a place for the rich and poor alike could get away from the city lifestyle and enjoy fresh air.
Although it may not seem it, Central Park was entirely man-made. It was designed in 1858, which was an Industrial time for the city. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux as a great public park.
