The current Australian government has taken the "head-in-the-sand" approach to this problem and cancelled all current and future funding for the study of NEO's - Shame Shame Shame!!!
Typical politicians' thinking of "it won't happen during my time in office so why spend the money".....

Skylab was just lucky that we have LOTS and LOTS of open space in Oz...
