Grantchester Meadows, on the outskirts of Cambridge, where Roger, syd & Dave grew up, is strip of land by the river Cam. It's maybe a hundred yards wide and a mile or so long, and is mainly uncultivated grassland. Cows graze on it for part of the year, and it is divided up into sections, with cattle grids for bikes to cross, and swing gates for pedestrians. A narrow path links Grantchester to Newnham. In the summer it is crowded with students and Cambridge residents enjoying the sun, and sometimes, swimming in the river. Punts from the city are often seen. At one end there is an old, battered metal sign which details who may fish where, and when. Someone has scratched 'Dave, Rick Roger, Nick, Syd on the sign in an attempt to make those who know Pink Floyd think it was done by one of the band. But although the sign looks old enough, only three of the five lived in Cambridge...
