A Conversation for Alternative Holidays
Deaf/Hearing Integration
JulesK Started conversation Mar 25, 2006
My best holiday (actually I went three summers running) was for a group of around 30 teenagers, some deaf and some hearing (I'm hearing).
I learnt a wealth of communication and inclusion skills, quite a lot of sign language (single words and some song phrases), all about the needs, problems and general facts of belonging to the Deaf community...plus made tons of friends, got a boyfriend and had a lot of fun!
I had an interest in this before I went and since then it's basically taken over my (working) life. I could probably name the whole group as well - from 1989!
Dunno if those holidays exist anymore
