The cricket quote looked wrong, so I did a quick Google... The correct version is:
"The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey"

If memory serves, that weas Johners, who was a smart old cookie. I'm not convinced it wasnt said deliberately, as a bet of some kind. The boys on Radio 3 Test Match Special did like their little jokes.
