A Conversation for Handy Latin Phrases

New phrase?

Hello I'm new and haven't had time to read all the postings so far, so if you've seen this before, bear with me.
I once saw this "motto" on a home-made plaque in a pub in Derbyshire I think you'll get one word straight away, even if you
know no latin at all....

Semper in excretio, solum profundum variat

As I have no latin, I can't guarantee that it's strictly correct, but it's supposed to mean
"Always in the s**t, only the depth changes", a phrase which I found to be
applicable to my old job.
Does anyone know of any books which can be used to educate oneself in
latin?
