A Conversation for Handy Latin Phrases

Isaiah

hi,
I'm after some help with learning latin. For starters I guess I just want a few phrases translated ... but I've always been fascinated in the language and would love to learn it. I've heard it's pretty hard though and was after some suggestions on trustworthy authors/works or any techniques that would be better than others. I live in Australia and haven't found many good latin books here ... some pocket-sized translators, but they don't look like they're going to be really helpful.

Ok, now for phrases I was after some help with before I actually learn the language myself:

"Love, honour, respect."
"Never say die."
"Don't let the bastards grind you down" (saw this one above but a bit of confusion over a correct translation)

I'll admit that I'm after a good phrase for a tattoo. Something I can adopt as a personal motto. I like the whole 'living-on-the-edge', 'never-say-die' theme. If anyone has any ideas that's be great.

Please email me: [email protected]

Reagrds,
Roger

Depends really if you mean nouns or verbs... In each case, it would be like this:
Nouns: amor, honor, veneratio
Verbs: amo, honoro, vereor (to love, to honor, to respect)

Hope you can use this info

by the way...

Never say die would be something like Non Loquaris Mortifi, I think, but don't go getting that tatto'd untill you've checked with a linguist, right?

And I'd really like to learn it too. I think there's some guy over in the Vatican who gives lessons.
