This is good, Bluebottle. Haven't given it a thorough going through yet, but one sentence jumped out at me:
"Mills was responsible for casting John Le Mesurier and Clive Dunn, David Croft had previously worked with Arnold Ridley and Jimmy Perry was keen to get Arthur Lowe to play Mainwaring, even though he was best known for being in ITV soap opera Coronation Street at the time."
I can't figure out what you're trying to say here. Can you break it up into smaller sentences, please?

Thanks all.
I've tweaked that sentence now so it should make more sense.
Incidentally, I have no intention of writing an entry analysing the episode titles – unless Gnomon asks me to

Thanks for tackling this.
It’s a massive subject, as it’s such a well-loved and hugely-successful sitcom. It’s a huge ask condensing it into a few hundred words, and if you’re going to do that, then you should really describe the characters and situations better to give people an idea why it’s so funny. Where you have, it’s bitty and spread out. I strongly suggest you include near the beginning a list of who the main characters are, with a brief description, e.g.
Captain Mainwaring (pronounced ‘Mannering’)- the town’s pompous bank manager who assumes control of the platoon. He lives under the illusion that his group of misfits are an elite fighting force, and devises all manner of training exercises to test their mettle.
Sergeant Wilson - Mainwaring’s senior bank clerk, he is installed as second in command. Upper-class and reluctant, he irritates Mainwaring in every way. He has a complex domestic relationship with the mother of Private Pike. Pike doesn’t know that ‘Uncle Arthur’ is his father.
etc.

I added a bit about the characters, but without going into too much depth.
This is because I cannot assume that readers will read the dedicated entry on the subject, but I've tried not to repeat myself so that readers who have read already the character entry aren't bored by reading the same thing again.

I read in the Radio Times Christmas edition that BBC are showing a drama on the creation of 'Dad's Army' entitled 'We're doomed! The Dad's Army Story' over Christmas, so that's something to look forward to.
