..the only cinque port outside of Kent and Sussex, great walks along the river, bird watching on the mud flats, several times winner of Anglia in bloom, once boasting of 26 pubs (not so many now), the best fish and chip shop for miles ('Winkies'-can I advertise?), steeped in history from its Roman roots at Spring Mead house, to the unique set of wall tiles commemorating the lives of local men lost as sea on the walls of All Saints church and the legend that May Queen of Scots hid out in Jacobs Hall and escaped via a tunnel to the river. Well worth a visit, just ignore the unsightly edifice they are building down the waterside
