Yes, hi Linus. smiley - smiley
You're right - John Lennon didn't start taking drugs until much later, and the name was thought of first, before they even went to Hamburg. But it is very much John Lennon's humour - have you read any of his books?

There was a fairly well known group around the time of the Beatles called the Beau Brummels. That name was not so "evolved" ... they said they picked it so their albums would be next to the Beatles' on the record store rack. Not a bad plan, but their album "Introducing the Beau Brummels" peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Chart in '65.

Yes, it is a very interesting story about the Beau Brummels - I can't say I've heard of them, though smiley - winkeye

Still, John Lennon wrote two books, "In His Own Write" and "A Spaniard In The Works", both of them very surreal, very unusual. You can read extracts here:

You might recognize the Beau Brummels hits if you heard them, "Laugh, Laugh" (... I thought I'd die ...) and "Just a Little". You can hear excerpts at Amazon if you're interested. A search got 11 items. Not a bad sound, but hitching to the Beatles juggernaut was probably the best idea. smiley - smiley

The beatles started taking drugs in Hamburg (speed) to keep them up all night and playing. This speed consumption continued on and off until approx early 65 when they were introduced to Jazz herbal cigarettes. By the time lennon hit 66 he was taking anything that he could get his hands on. He got bored with acid prior to the White Album where the references to heroin are overpowering. His nasty attitude towards Mcartney is one typical of an addict. Allegedly he used Methadone, cocaine and hash on and off until his death.

I think I metioned this back there somewhere, but ... the Texas version of "Sex, drugs and rock 'n roll" was primarily Janis Joplin, from the industrial redneck area of Beaumont/Port Arthur. The story of her visit to her tenth high school reunion is hilarious ... over the top hippie lead singer meets big hair sorority women. Reportedly she took one look and headed for the bar. The interesting thing is that her drug of choice was alcohol - which has the great benefit of being legal smiley - smiley
