Bodhran

0 Conversations

Considered by many to be a Weapon of Mass Destruction, the frame drum known as the BODHRAN is usually employed as an accompaniment to Irish traditional music. It is constructed of a wood body 12-20 inches in diameter and 3-5 inches deep. A membrane of Goat Skin is stretched over one side of the frame and attached with tacks. Tension is adjusted by varying the moisture content of the skin by either heating it over a lamp or wetting it. Players use either a tipper or their fingers, knuckles and palm of their hand to beat it with.
