The Legend

Mermaids are sea-creatures, the top half woman {or man!}, the bottom half is the tail of a fish.
Although supposedly a legend perpetrated by sailors since the first time human beings ever set out to roam the waters of Planet Earth; many people do believe in these creatures.

Children's books have been written about them. Films are made for entertainment purposes, with the mermaid featured or being the actual star.

Mermaid Stars

  • Ariel
  • from The Little Mermaid {Hans Christian Anderson}

  • Miranda
  • from the film of the same name, played by Glynnis Johns.

  • Splash
  • The central character {Madison - played by Daryl Hannah} was able to change her true love into a merman so he could live under the sea with her.

    City Symbol

  • COPENHAGEN
  • in Denmark, has the little mermaid for its symbol. A life-size, bronze statue of her sits on a rock in the harbour, looking out to sea. In the legend, her song so captivated passing sailors that they were drawn to their deaths upon the rocks.
