The English North/South Divide (Poem)

1 Conversation

North and South

Through this pane of glass I see
The sky, the tree, the hill
All of nature wild and free
So beautiful and still

Majestic mountains, rushing streams
Rabbit, fox and deer
All of what makes up mans dreams
My minds eye crystal clear

The scenery is changing now
Tall chimneys cloud the view
With smoking spires, no sheep, no cow
The sky's a greyer hue

The houses, looming factories
And traffic by the mile
I can't remember now the breeze
That blew for just a while

A coach journey brings forth this scene
Our country in a day
But at the top it's fresh and green
And further down it's grey
