The WIMP Human - Computer Interface
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
The WIMP (Window Icon Menu Pointer) computer interface was invented in the 1970s by Xerox who also invented the mouse.
This idea was 'stolen' by Apple for the Apple II computer, which then had it 'stolen' by Microsoft for the Windows application.*
As it's name suggests, the WIMP system comprises of Windows, Icons, Menus, and a Pointer.
