Little Mermaid, The (Disney Movie)

For starters, it was the movie that started the Disney Renaissance, elevating feature-length animation to new heights. No matter what your opinion of the movie, you can't deny the incredible artistry of it, particularly the underwater images.
Beyond being a beautiful piece of eye candy, TLM has a great story line. Ariel's struggle to find her identity touches anyone who ever went against the norm. Add to that a little action, a deliciously hatable villain, and unforgettable songs, and you've got yourself a classic.
On an interesting side note, I've discovered that a LOT of people you wouldn't expect to like this movie (i.e., stereotypical 20-something slackers, punks, and ruffians) absolutely love it. If you're one of us, it's time to come out of the closet now.
