Aardvark

0 Conversations

Aardvarks are insect-eating quadrupeds who do not normally seek much attention and are therefore somewhat peeved to find themselves thrust into public notice ahead of their close relations, the ant-eaters and armadillos. This is down to the fact that 'aardvark' was selected by missionaries to be the 'Good Word' and consequently may be found at the head of most published word-lists, just behind the 'Better Word' ('aam' - a Dutch liquid measure of 37 to 41 gallons, which tells you something about Dutch drinking habits) and the 'Best Word' ('a' - a word so universally useful that most people couldn't tell you what it means - hence its description: 'the indefinite article').

Aardvarks are members of the order Edentata, named by Adam shortly after he was expelled from Eden and still had a whole alphabet to work through.
