They're nice sentiments, Nick, but moping around feeling sick doesn't help anyone. I've tried it. There's a limit to what one can do several thousand miles away. Usually that includes writing letters, sending money, and joining the occasional rally.
If you get emotional about every tragedy in the world you'll never be anything but upset. There is always someone needlessly dying, if not in the middle east then in Africa. the Phillipines. Southeast Asia.
THe world is a horrid place, and we're trying to make it better. It certainly is beter than it used to be. Dropping out of the fun things in life doesn't help matters - only positive action does. And you can have both in your life.
Just my honest opinion.

I understand and fully concur, Leo. That's why I returned in fairly short order. I really DO live in the real world, and know that I just have to deal as it all goes. I do appreciate the thought though.

Just as a btw, ... enjoy that "20 for the first time". I'm fast approaching 29, ... for the 19th time.

I can only guess that it's the all-inclusive of "we who really want peace". Not any particular side in any struggle.
But then, ... I have been known to be less correct than I would like to be.

My idea of peace is to go out for a walk in the countryside, or sit and stare at the glowing embers of a log fire.
What's yours?

That's peaceful. As is lying under the sheets in an air conditioned room listening to Yanni. Or reading a good book on the grass under a shady tree.
But that doesn't make peace.

Does the air conditioning make any sound? It uses electricity.
Reading a good book is peaceful, yes that's good.
How would you go about making peace?
Rev. Nick's Journal: Taking a break
Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear } Posted Aug 2, 2006
Sometimes, us "little" people can only create our own peace. In our own little piece of the world.
As to the bigger, badder and uglier places and parts, I can only hope that greater minds and hearts, and sometimes younger wearers of uniforms than myself, can work things out.

Go about making peace? That's the million dollar question. More than a million dollars, actually. Whoever answers it will get the Nobel Peace PRize for the rest of eternity, which is probably several billion.
Guess it's time to stick to personal peaces. Hot chocolate on a snowy day.

An opened sofa bed, facing the open wood fire. A relaxed missus and two drowsy-dopey-, while a Canuck winter rages outside.
