No, not startling - starting...

I've fallen out of poetry writing lately, it seems. Or maybe writing it is actually the anomaly smiley - winkeye

A few evenings ago, this line popped into my mind -

"I walked a mile in the rain"

It felt like the opening line of something. Or maybe the closing. Or both?

Anyway, I've had too many other things going on in that there head - so I haven't been able to have a go at giving it something to connect to.

Anyone wanting to play at joint writing?

The scenery I vaguely had in mind was a city street setting, rainy (smiley - doh), quiet. Something that would have been filmed slow and in black and white or sepia.

I walked a mile in the rain
No I'm not going back again
To go back would be insane
To repeat the unbearable pain
Let me turn down this dark lane
Raindrops are numbing my brain
Now it's unfamiliar terrain
I hide my sorrows with thoughts so inane
But happiness I can't even feign
I've nothing to lose or gain
Is there no letup to this rain?
The aggression I cannot maintain
Are my sorrows beginning to wane?
I'm walking that road again
The drops sing their cheery refrain
The light in the sky - a small stain
Reducing the hurt - can't complain
I think I will go back again
And walk that mile back in the rain

(just a quickie in the lunch break)

Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~

Dancing in the streets, dancing in the rain?
Oh no, this walk was quite mundane.
He hobbled along clutching his cane
in boots made of leather brought back from Spain,
thinking of Dylan, the ghost of the vain,
milking the woods, feeding the sane,
this doubtless Thomas was combing his mane

Icy North

Outward bound, we walked a mile in the rain.
Heavens poured scorn on the waterworn.
This teeming event ironised our teaming event.
How did I get involved with this shower in the first place?
Who precipitated this debacle?
How I wished we could have hailed a cab.

Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~

Sadness befell us circus clowns
the day they tore the big top down
the elephants were all set free
the horses roamed the vast prairie

The equines soon adjusted well
The elephants? What can I tell?
Their memory soon aided them
in finding food like leaves on stem

But what's a saddened clown to do
when noone's there to laugh at you?
Sans audience to ease this pain
I walked for miles in heartless rain

Thanks for the smiley - applause Santragenius, but I feel most humbled by you lot writing poems in a foreign language. I feel obliged to have a go in German now. Er - how many kilometres to a mile?
