Lord! They are bloody nosy... 'Do you have every scrap of information for your property for the 25 years you have been habiting the property?'

Well, they don't actually *say* that, but it's implied smiley - rolleyes


They want to know our mortgage account number... Tricky that, as Hubby paid off the mortgage last month, and the account is now closed.

This morning I couldn't find the redemption receipt, to text Hubby to say so...

.. I have just text him back, saying:

'Ignore last text, I've found it in your filing system... on the floor!'

We are still lucky, we don't have deal with anyone else further up the chain. We just need to transfer the payment into the Executor's account and then dispurse the proceeds... in the meantime, I'm getting all the letters for answering! smiley - headhurts

Have you ever had woodworm? When was it dealt with?

How long have you lived in the property? Who lived there before that? And before that?

Actually.... that 'moving/buying' house thing was something I was really wondering about, as I am considering moving at some point... and I've no clue how things like putting your house up for sale, agreeing to buy another house, works, in terms of timings... and all that stuff... I guess you advertise yours for sale first, and then try find a new one, and just sort of hope it all coincides? smiley - yikes
I was in rented before I came here, and didn't even have to worry about the complication of morrgages, just say 'yes, I want to buy this one', then contacted a solicitor, and wrote out cheques, and signed a couple of things smiley - blush
I have to say though, the hole idea of going through moving again; and this time its being more complicated, is seriously making me consider just staying put to avoid the hastle smiley - snorksmiley - wah
Seriously good luck with it, hope it works as smoothly and seemelessly as such things can smiley - zensmiley - goodluck

Seems utterly useless of the solicitor to ask about the damp course, and the previous occupants; both will, one guesses, be on the house/property deeds, from wence, the information is as reliable as one is likely to guet regarding a property... smiley - huhsmiley - weird
Actually that reminds me... still never got a recipt or documentation last year when I had the new windows fitted... I guess that might be something useful for me to have were I to ever move smiley - dohsmiley - weird Mind.... not even sure I can remember which solicitors has the deeds to my house... smiley - ermsmiley - doh

Some years ago we remortgaged and we received all the property deeds to the house going back to when it was just land in 1928.

We thought this might be a mistake, but nobody could advise us, so we just kept them safe.

Now the buyer's solicitor wants to view them!

I said there was too much to go in the post, so we've to take it to our estate agents for them to send them by courier through the solicitor's DX system.

I remember years ago, before the divorce, when I paid the mortgage off on the house we had up North, the deeds went right back to 17.20 when the hose was built.

It was actually sold for 175 guineas way back in the 1800s, the whole deed file was about 3" think.

Yet, when we paid off our present mortgage, which was built in the 1930s, the deeds file was only a few pages thick.

Must admit though, its great not to have one any more, its the same feeling bought our car out right as well, mind you that was from a pension I had been paying all my life.smiley - smiley

My Father had to get hol of the origional deeds to his house/the family house, a few years back, and discovered a few interesting things....

The house was built in the late 60's early 70's,, and as it turns out from the deeds, when the houses there were built, no one knew who owned the land.

The land had been turned over to agriculture during the war years, and farmed then, but before hand was just a wild area, and after the war, a couple people staid on, and farmed it a while, before disappearing; they didn't acutally own it, they'd been part of the err whatever the thing was called at the time when land was turned over by the gov to food production...

Anyhow, since the time the houses were built, there had been forty or more claims on the land, by various people; the deeds contained all these letter which had been wizzing about between solicitors over the past thirty or forty years, all without our knowledge smiley - huh

A few people from mainland Europe had put in claimes... Scandanavia I think... Some of the people who worked it during the war years, some people from the North of the UK, plus some more local land owners... all these claims to ownership of the land had been unsucessful so one guesses they were all spurious claims smiley - weird

I recall on the deeds to this place, it was council owned rental accomidation; sold off in the Thatcher 'once in a lifetime big sale' in the 1980's, and bought by the person who I bought the house off....
She'd oviously been a tenant here quite some time; she paid something like 10,000 pounds for it... a good investment seeing what I then paid for it in 1999 smiley - bigeyessmiley - dohsmiley - weird I really should try get hold of a copy of my deeds from the sllicitors... if I can ever remember which solicitor I left the deeds lodged with smiley - dohsmiley - erm
