Hi! I used to like Monkey, but I preferred The Water Margin. Are those really old Chinese tales, I wonder? Iused to look forward to the half term holiday with a fervour that I should, perhaps, have felt for my studies. What do you teach?
I wasn't a good student, but I've learned more of real use to me since I grew up. I was thinking about school the other day. All those facts about sheep farming, mining and cotton that the Geography department tried to get me to take an interest in. It's all gone, now!
Anyway, how did you manage to watch Monkey?

I teach RE, no I'm not religious, I am interested in what people believe about Life the Universe and Everything however.
And I managed to watch Monkey cos the Boyfriend got his brother to video them all (yes, all, there's like 50 of them or something obscene) when Bravo repeated them a couple of years ago.
Don't know the other series that you speak of. And we too wondered if they were old stories, I suspect to, in a sort of Xena way I think, you know, the cast and charcters erflect err 'real' people but the plotlines are perhaps at the mercy of artistic licence smiley - smiley
And I need to find someone who will be able to lipread the original script because I am not convinced about some (some? Ha!) of the translations, "Funky Monkey" indeed....

The Water Margin was a series from the same studio as Monkey, I think. It was the story of a band of Heroes, who rebelled against a villainous Warlord called Kao Chiu. The group was reluctantly led by Lin Chung, an unbeatable swordsman, who's wife was raped by Kao Chiu, and featuresd a man who could run faster than an arrow could fly, a girl with two swords, a Tiger hunter, a magician, an archer that could shoot like a machine gun... I'm sure you get the idea. They were holed up in a place called Lian Shan Po, the Water Margin of the title. I know someone who's friend is the man who did the voice-over for Kao Chiu, he may have worked on Monkey as well. Although silly, it was less comedy oriented than Monkey. I went off that when Monkeys cloud suddenly sported Browning .50 caliber machine guns!

Share, and Enjoy!
Try the Water Margin when you have finished Monkey. I have to say, Tripitaka got right up my nose, interfering biddie. I liked the Water Monster and the original Pigsy, though. The second one was not as funny.
