Why is Alistair Darling still Chancellor?

Why is Gordon Brown still Prime Minister?

Just how incompetent can you be and remain in office?

25 milion people in this country are asking themselves these very questions this morning. Two more people should be asking the questions and coming to a singular and unavoidable conclusion.

Who would have thought that a Labour government could make sleaze into an art form all of its own? This shower make the Tories of the 90's look rank amateurs in comparison.
As is always the case when Labour have been in office, they will leave with the usual Labour trade mark, high unemployment, more red tape, high inflation, high taxation and with little or no achievments of note except a ban on fox hunting and a ban on smoking. Assuming they carry on till 2010 election then there's still time for even more damage to be done sadly.
I can't think of anyone policy they've implemented that has been of benefit to the country, we've lost control of immigration, crime, surrendered a host of powers to the EU, we have more broken families, hospitals so dirty that 3rd world countries have cleaner facilities, we've become a target for terror due to a foreign policy based on lies and cover ups. We send our troops into war zones ill equipped, so much so that in some cases, the insurgents they're fighting are better armed and equipped than our professional services.
The trouble is, assuming a change of government occurs in 2010 it'll take the incumbent lot at least 5 years just to sort out this mess before they can implement any of their own policies.
I feel sorry for Londoners, why they chose this Mayor again is beyond comprehension, as well as the congestion charge, (another tax), now he wants to charge £25.00 a day for bigger car owners and 4x4 drivers and trucks. All very sad.

You forgot the pension raids, the gold fiasco, the aborted, broken down and expensive IT systems and the data 'losses', demoralisation of teachers, police, health service workers, fire and ambulance services, and the corruption of our parliamentary processes........

Any more for any more smiley - huh

What I find worrying is the rise in popularity of the ultra nationalist, ultra right wing elements such as the BNP suddenly finding they have a captive audience. It's a case of one extreme to another. If government, whether Labour or Tory, don't get a grip on things then I fear the other extremes will continue to gain popularity and that spells diaster frankly.
Wasn't there an MP recently got slapped down for quoting Enoch Powells 'Rivers of Blood' speech, or likening current situation to it?
