The Mauling of Justice
h5ringer Started conversation Sep 11, 2007
Today, a woman walked free from a British court of law, despite the fact that she and she alone had been instrumental in causing the death of a five-year-old child in her care. The child in question, her own grand-daughter was mauled to death by the family pet dog. Not only was the child mauled, so was justice.
The woman was acquitted by a jury despite the facts that:
• she admitted letting the dog into the house
• the dog was of a breed, ownership of which is prohibited by British law
• the dog had attacked another member of the family only six weeks earlier
• there was a 'family rule' that the dog was not to be let into the house in the presence of the child
On hearing the verdict, the child's father stood up and walked from the court in disgust. Is it any surprise?
