h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Read an article in the Los Angeles Times this afternoon. Apparently there are plans for an absolutely comprehensive surveillance of communication between U.K. citizenry.

Everything,ladies and gentlemen, will be going into some sort of computerized archive..regardless of the feelings of said citizenry.

It'll be to know that there's open eavesdropping going on here..though supposedly theres some sort of apparatus to prevent such stuff from going on

Right.

Who's intrested in talking bout this stuff???

all chat places and emails, basically everything will be archived for about 1 year, so "intelligence dept's" can "view" looking for terrorism related info etc.

The bit about saving internet data for a year s EU law, and Germany is having a hard time for it because our data protection laws forbid this.
EU threatens us with huge fines if we don't comply.

There is plenty of software which can keep ALL your communications private ( email, SMS msgs, chatrooms, VOIP phones, annonomous web browsing).
It's just people don't, or can't be bothered to use it. Do we really care about our privacy????

I have heard the same kind of thing is happening in the USA: the NSA is building a mega datacentre for thier national database which will include ALL internet communications of US citizens. Am i right?
