My diary for giving up Smoking!!

Its now been over 41 hours since i had my last smoke.
Not doing to bad but i am useing NICOTINELL Pathces and it seems im elergict to them
I am suposed to be on these for a 3 month course.
But my arn as gone very red sore burning and blistered so it looks like its going to be cold turkey for me from now on.

So wish me luck all i think i may need it..

Poor MA...I was warned that the patches could irritate and not to use them in the same area all the time and I seem to have been fortunate not to have any problems in their usage.

I did find that during stressful times I started a new habit....I now sit and rub or scratch the patch - maybe I'm hoping it will give me some more nicotine.

By the way...I never counted the hours, just days and now weeks.

Counting 1 2 3 seems to make the time go faster (does that make sense?)

How about we contact each other on a weekly basis and report our progress?

You know I'm wishin' you luck, strength, support...whatever you need to kick the habit as they say. I don't know tho Chell luv, goin' cold turkey isn't the easiest way to go...can you get an alternative to the patch? Like a nicotine gum,that'd help, I'd think. Stay strong girl, you can do this!

BTW, I learned in biology that it possible to get addicted to the Patch as well as cigarrettes, even both at the same time! Maybe the Patch isn't such a good idea at all...

well there its gr8 to hear ur ur giving up the cigarrettes my aunties on tn these capsules that u put inside a plastastic whistle like thing and puff on it its working for her maybe u should ask ur doc about it if u can,t handle the the patches anyway i'm getting withdrawell symptons need sum pics of the 2nd bestest so get on that phone

This is my 3rd full day now although its been since sunday evening i had my last smoke.

Actually feeling preety good and only been tempted once but was strong enough not to break.

The patches ive actually found a place on the back of my shoulder where they dont irritate
But if they start irritaing again i will just have to goi cold turkey.

I have actually done it before by going cold turkey i actually gave up for 3 years but i started again a couple of years ago after the loss of my parents.
This time im determined not to go back. especially through health reasons with haveing constant chest problems.

I had my last cigarette at 11.30pm Saturday 31st January 2004

And I am an addict!! I suppose this is a bit like going to AA.

During that period I have been tempted 3 times. This was when things got really bad. But the rest of the time it has just been plain old Habit!!

I have been smoking since before the children were born - you know Vicki and she is the youngest!!

I have never even attempted to give up before - I just liked it too much.

Family health problems, both near and far, made up my mind to give up!

I will be with you every step of the way.

I know what you mean it can be tough but i think looking it on a possative side can give you encouragement.

We will help each other and succeed.

I started smoking at 15 so apart from the 3 year gap i had its been 20 years.
I dont know what made me start in the beginning it wasnt pressure neither my brother or sister had ever smoked.

Probably because it seemed to Grown Up thing to do.

Being brought up in a pub and being behind the bar at 15 might have given me that idea!

I am the eldest of 4 siblings, none of whom have ever smoked.

Both my parents smoked but gave up years ago.

I gave up just after my eldest was born....around April 1999....best thing I ever did, doesn't mean I am not tempted. The thing is it just passes quicker.

I know what you are going through, you arwe not alone in this.

Can't you prescribe something for us. Then we can sleep the next 3 months and wake up to summer and nice bright happy thoughts

Ah sweetheart, you don't need me to prescribe anything, if you are stil off them, then you have broken the back of it.....after 48 hrs there is no physical withdrawl, all of the nicotuine will have leeched out of your system.....you aer just dealing with the psycological effects and if you are the lady I reckon you are...you can deal with them standing on your head.

In fact I perscribe. everytime you feel like a cigarette you stand on your head, that will soon kill the carvings.

Anyone else reading the thread feel free to use the sam prescription....when I gave up I carried those little Chinese health balls with me, you know the sort of ones that you hold in the palm of your hands and kind of make roll about......maybe I will regret writing this. They rea made of metal and vwery gently massage the pressure points on the pakm of the hand, I found it helped me.

Only one piece of advice......don't switch to gum or chocolate....try treally had to give up without either....it juts replaces one psycological dependancy with another.....alos it just marks you out as a recent giver-up.....all that frenetic chewing is such a giveaway.

I started a diet 1 month before giving up smoking. Lost half a stone in 3 weeks . I didn't want to gain any weight, since then I have lost a further 2lbs.
