Still a bit jetlagged/time-confused but am reflecting on having thoroughly enjoyed my trip. The odd litle vignette springs into mind now and again ...
... I've been having a slightly Pythonesque experience.
When I visited the tomb of YongLe last week they'd covered up most of the original floor, to protect it from the passage of modern feet, but had left one area exposed for viewing. This was surrounded by low fencing and there was an adjacent notice in Mandarin writing with a translation into English below which exhorted "No Striding".
I think that meant that we weren't allowed to cross the fence and walk on the old floor - but my brain conjured up pictures of people walking energetically round the building, a la Ministry of Silly Walks, and being told off by the guards.
In other places where entering an area was verboten, including animal enclosures at the zoo, we were told not to Leap the Fence. To my warped mind that suggested that it might be okay to climb in carefully
And in the lifts in the hotel there were signs advising one to press the alarm button if experiencing any unwanted threatening attention.
Now, I'm poking a bit of fun here - in the full knowledge that translating anything from English into Mandarin characters would be an absolute impossibility for me.

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013 Posted Jun 3, 2008
Welcome back, glad you had a good time and wrote such a lot of lovely things for us to read in
Hope humdrum little England doesn't seem too dull in comparison.
