Rosa Baggins NaJoPoMo entry - sharing memorable past winters

The best winters that I remember where the winters in the mid to late 60's. I was living with my family in Ashington a mining town in South East Northumberland where the winters were not only the coldest but the most beautiful. The frost would cover our windows, where the ice particles would make intricate and very beautiful patterns over the glass. When it snowed the snow would make it everything look so magical and I loved going outside to gaze at such a wondrous scene. It was and still is my favourite season of the year but even though we have had very cold and snowy winters, they are nothing like the ones I remembered as a small child in Northumberland.

No, and the frosts don't last as long. They were a different type of winter than we have now and the frosts we have now don't last as long as they used to.

We had more than nine feet of snow in Boston last Winter. Trust me, if snow was magical, I would have more magical power than Harry Potter by now. smiley - erm

True, small amounts of snow can look beautiful for a while, until car exhaust stains it the color of soot smiley - yuk.

As fr yellow snow,

Paul the most we've according to my form tutor was 5 foot of snow but I am not sure if she was exaggerating. When I was 15 years age, I was staying at a Hertfordshire boarding school where during a lesson my teacher said I was not adventurous because she said I would refuse to go out in the snow when it was five foot deep. Being only just under 5ft (I am still 5ft) I thought I would drown in the snow, but I did not understand then that the snow would become packed and I could walk over it.

The frosts in the 60's were spectacular and would last the whole day. I remember more about the frost than the snow. If we did have snow it would last at most a week and it would not frost over as it had fresh snowfalls nearly every day. The deepest it went would be 16 inches. My face would become very rosy with the cold and even when it has been very cold in Southern England I would never get rosy pink cheeks. I was in Ashington in the mid 90's and we had very snowy two weeks but it was awful as it was foggy and the snow was packed with ice. Although I love snow, I do not love when it ices over and especially when it's very foggy as I did not know where I was walking and slipped over several times. It took me nearly half an hour to walk a distance that would have taken me 5 to 10 minutes.smiley - yikessmiley - sadface

Love the clip of the yellow snow song, smiley - laugh

It's a song by Frank Zappa. There must be other ways of hearing it.
