When I stepped out of the house this morning the sun was shining and the smoke enveloping the wind chimes on the harbour promenade four days ago seemed a dream from an evaporating nightmare. At the corner a roadworker was mending the pavement where it had been torn up for ammunition. The smashed windows of the Golden Anchor were looking blind and confused on to the river. Four days already since somebody's head was bashed in on the stairs of the neighbouring musik shop, who's kindly owner always takes in my mail, and the blood on the stone steps had turned a yellowish brown. It is unnaturally quiet, I've often wished to see the street like this, no cars getting in the way, no people underfoot. I think I'll lock up and leave for some days, just in case.

I didn't know you were so close to the centre of the world, D. Best of luck in the next few days, and I hope you're keeping well.
(Just back from a trip over to your old UCC stomping ground. It's a very pretty place to be this time of the year).

I live just down by the harbour where the stones were flying and I do so hate brouhaha and general upset and self righteousness and evil clowns with their gay colours and poison sprays... well the politicians have taken themselves off and so have the chaos mongers, followed by a sigh of relief from Rostock's inhabitants and a hefty curse from me...
