Looks Like A Quiet Weekend
Jhawkesby Started conversation Dec 7, 2008
It has been very quiet this weekend. The only places, to me, that are popular are people's journals. So if you are looking for a good conversation then pop into someone's - so long as it is suitable.
It has been quiet here at home as well but that is because we are all trying to fight this cold. A few people seem to be taking a holiday, good for them.
One of which is Rich who is in Spain at the moment. It looks as though Bel is running the ship for The Post and talking of which The Post's next issue is a Christmas special and is going to be so until the 8th of January when, hopefully, h2g2 will be nice and busy again.
Peer Review is also quiet and I have read that a few people aren't bothering anymore with writing guide entries anymore because of the recommending scheme.
I'm still sorting out my Quadratic Formula entry which needs to include a few more examples, my only problem is that I want to keep it simple as it is suppose to introduce the subject to someone who has either not been taught it or hasn't used it for a long time.
It still needs to have the examples though so it is getting there.

It's nice to have peace and quiet. It may even help you regarding your cold.
I wasn't aware that people were giving up on writing for the Guide.
Good luck on your Quadratic Formula

Thankyou Opti.
I was reading a few comments in the Cabbages Peer Review thread. I don't know if you still have it but I don't minding it for you.

I found the thread

I tend to unsubscribe once I've congratulated people. I'm a tad confused as to whether I caused injury by picking it but its a great Entry and well deserved to be in the Guide. I do hope Sho and BigAl continue to write great Entries like this.

Yes me to. It obviously was a good pick otherwise why did it zoom straight to the front page? It is on it as we speak.
I think what they find annoying is that it gets picked when there is active conversation but sometimes it doesn't matter because the guide entry is ready and they could be just discussing on something else like in Icy's Number One guide entry. People are just talking about how to pronounce the number one exactly.

ah phew ...I'm pleased you think that way
changing the subject: I wonder if I'm allowed to ask you whether you are putting yourself up for the h2g2 factor? I'm unsure whether or not too.

Ask me anything! I don't mind.
I not going to sign myself up because I feel inexperienced compared to everybody else and it would probably get rid of my enthusiasm for writing for h2g2 if I get a low score. Do they do this competition evry year? If so I might sign myself up next time but at the moment I am not ready. How about you? A few people said they are and if you go on the article in The Post about it and see the conversations below it will show a few people said that they are.
I think you will do really well but as it says you need time and able to cope under time pressure as you will have to complete one challenge per month at a time.

This appears to be the first year in which this challenge is running.
I'm always up for a challenge ...I'm just not sure I'm brave enough to face the voting system

I have read the article but how does the voting system exactly work?

That is a shame. At least it will all be explained in the next article.
Is the next article in the next issue?
