Advantages of a Quarantine
Baron Grim Posted Apr 11, 2020
So... I finally read a plausible reason behind the TP hoarding a few weeks ago. OK... so obviously, most people hoarded TP because they saw others were doing it and lemminged as it were. But why did it start?
So, basically when some areas began shutting down, with stay at home orders, that did prompt people to stock up on supplies expecting to be homebound for weeks. That's normal and expected. So, supermarkets have really perfected their supply schedules, keeping in-store stocks to expected levels. So the quick surge in sales depleted some shelves. Some folks came in later and saw these empty shelves and posted pictures to social media. So what's special about TP? Paper products, like toilet paper and kitchen/paper towels are bulky, some the bulkiest products in the stores. So it doesn't take long to empty these shelves leaving entire aisles empty. Sell out of a few types of canned food and there's probably plenty of other items nearby, but paper products take up a lot of space so their absence is striking.
So, these empty paper product aisles are the first thing posted to social media creating an instant meme that spreads faster than The Rona.

Groceries and supermarkets keep about four days' supply of food at any one time. That's an average, of course.
I keep four four-packs of toilet paper on hand, so I could last maybe a month or two with what I have. Hopefully, there will be pockets of supply in that time, when I can replenish. Today, the Dollar Tree had toilet paper and paper towels, with a limit of four per customer. The lady ahead of me took five .

Researcher: Denmark, Norway and Sweden are conducting a historical experiment.
By comparing Denmark and Sweden one can say something about the importance of early and comprehensive closure.
By comparing Denmark and Norway, one can say something about the effect of massive testing, detection and isolation of infection carriers.

This morning,my temperature was 36.2. Just now it was 37.1 From rather low to rather high but not feverish.
(Yes, now I'm going to obsess about my temperature. )
According to my other thermometer, my temp is 36.5 C. (97.7 F.)
My temps have tended t be a bit on the low side when doctors or nurses have measured them.

Same here. I am trying to raise the bar (now that my favourite local is closed) and I'm doing okay so far I believe
Just checked the latest statistics: Out of 70,125 tested only 0.38% have died. And as far as I know only some health workers and people showing severe symptoms have been tested so that appears to be a low number.

You say that 70,000 have been tested. Did they test positive?

all news reports from around the world, "show" how many have died in each country etc and how many have caught coronavirus etc
I'm waiting for figures/numbers WHO have survived it! Having had it!

Out of the 72,099 tested so far, 6,318 were found to be infected. 2,235 of these have since been reported healthy again. 285 have died.
It is impossible to compare the figures (especially the numbers from different countries) as long as not all are tested. In some countries - like mine for instance - only some are tested. Partly because we haven't had test kits enough. Partly because we haven't had staff enough to test people.
The only thing that really matters is to slow down the evolution of this pandemic so the health system can keep up. The measures we have used here seem to work well for society as a whole. That is no guarantee for the individual, but then there never is.
Key: Complain about this post
