SQ: Tenth Hootooversary

It is ten years ago today that I opened my Personal Space in h2g2!
I had lurked a bit beforehand, as I found my way in here via another section of the BBC - I discovered Peer Review and the idea of it pleased me. I rummaged through my History of Mathematics folder and found an essay I had written that would potentially fill a gap in the Edited Guide. I made a vague attempt at GuideML, and then submitted the result! Little did I know then that the Entry would eventually be accepted by the Guide Editors and that I would go on to become a Guide Editor myself with more than 100 Edited Entries to my name!
h2g2 has made such a difference to me - I have learned so much from the archives (fact and fiction) as well as interacting directly with people in conversations, and from going out and researching things myself, armed with my trusty 'Ford Prefect' notebook. h2g2ers have given me support in tough times, and laughs at fun times. I have been to meets ranging from just one other h2g2er to the 20th Anniversary Meet.

Today is my darling's birthday 
To celebrate, I have:
Written up the pasta recipe that my darling would be proud of, so I will make that this evening for the birthday dinner A87871756 Written a book to celebrate my darling (I got it printed last month, but I will take a photo of it later today) Drawn a cartoon to celebrate my darling and me (which I will put online later today) Knitted a tiny bunny which I will pet in honour of my darling snuggle bunny A591310 this evening Entered a competition where everyone who satisfies the criteria gets a certificate (although I won't find out if I win until the end of June) Written 40 solo Entries (just short of 42, but never mind - it's a nice round number) Sub-edited a total of 100 Entries for h2g2

So Proud and Happysad

This week my partner was awarded her organisation's lifetime achievement award, and as she is sadly not able to collect it in person, her family and me were invited to attend in her honour. The award ceremony was good - not longwinded, but long enough to pay tribute to all the winners of awards, and there was an excellent formal dinner afterwards, so it was an enjoyable event.
The best thing was the presentation, and the moving speeches about all the work D did to improve things for so many other people I also enjoyed having a catch up with people who I had met before, especially the family, who did really well, and I successfully networked with new people over dinner too so it was a great celebration
I'm so proud of D, and although I'm sad, I'm so pleased that I was part of her life and I'm glad to be almost certain I made her at least half as happy as she made me, and that her spending time with me didn't diminish, but enhanced her work as she had so much enthusiasm and passion to do so much...
I'm struggling to be even a bit like her in terms of energy for helping others, but every day that I go out and be myself is a tribute to her, as she encouraged me to be confident in who I am, so she would be proud of me for that.

I'm doing NaNoWriMo again this year, in honour of my darling
I wasn't going to do h2g2 NaJoPoMo as well, but then I thought I can at least report on my progress in the other competition, if nothing else.
I might not have time to read other people's journals straight away, but I have bookmarked them for future enjoyment - it is fascinating to see what people think of to write about
