Thanks Elektra - that was interesting reading.

It wasn't that long ago in the UK that I encountered job descriptions that included as essential criteria the ability to lift 25lb, so things have improved since then...

However, sometimes it would be useful if the job description did include stuff like, "Must be able to access non-ADA compliant building" if they are not prepared to negotiate, as then we'd know what the situation was before applying - I did get some discrimination like that (like this cartoon A87939049 ) but as the article says, I couldn't afford the time and energy to file a lawsuit about it...

On the other hand, I have been lucky in my career that I got extra good jobs because the managers were willing to negotiate and accommodate me so they were great teams to work for. The job I have now and my first job were both in inaccessible buildings, but in the first job they arranged for a ramp to be installed for me, and in my current job they moved the office to an accessible building so there was no problem
